Sullivan & Cromwell LLP: Rift White Oak Private Offices Finished to an Exact Standard

Before anyone sits down in a private office, the finish has already made its impression. For Sullivan & Cromwell LLP's new floor at 125 Broad Street in New York, that impression mattered. The private offices were intended to be one of the floor's main focal points, and the firm and its architect wanted a very clean, polished, high-end design within a facility of approximately 32,000 square feet.

The Challenge

The client and architect chose a premium natural Rift White Oak veneer, a material valued for its character. That same character is what makes it demanding. Real wood veneer varies naturally in color and grain, and the architect asked LaCOUR to stain and finish the material to closely match an existing control sample.

With appearance, finish quality, and consistency all central to the design, the project required careful veneer selection, color matching, and production coordination. Every office needed to read as part of one consistent whole, and the work had to hold to the project schedule.

The LaCOUR Approach

LaCOUR developed a finish that matched the architect's control sample, so the client could move forward with the natural Rift White Oak veneer they had selected, with the finish tuned to the standard the design required.

Sourcing followed the same discipline. The team secured the required veneer and materials while maintaining the project schedule. Through careful material planning and production management, LaCOUR optimized veneer yield, drawing more usable material from the veneer and reducing waste in the process. Efficiency never came at the expense of the visual consistency the private offices depended on.

The Results

Installed on May 1, 2026, the completed Rift White Oak private offices deliver a clean, sophisticated workspace designed to support productivity, collaboration, and the overall employee experience. The veneer carries the finish the architect specified, and the project maintained its schedule while optimizing veneer yield and material use.

This was LaCOUR's first project with Sullivan & Cromwell, and LaCOUR looks forward to growing the relationship and supporting the firm through future expansions and projects. When your design rests on a natural material and an exact standard, you need a partner who can honor both.
